Many fans of Winter Sports around the world are waiting for the Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver in 2010. Vancouver is the capital of British Columbia, a Western Canadian Province. Vancouver International Airport is very near to the city, making it very convenient for the international travelers attending the events. Tickets are already being sold, hotel reservations are already being made amongst other preparations. Vancouver city is all geared up to host this mega world class event. Start planning your trip today if you want to be a part of all the action that’s going to take place in the Winter Olympics of 2010.
Athletes play a very important role and in fact they are the main attraction of the Winter Olympics. These men and women have been in training for years in order to excel in their respective events. Here is a list of few athletes who are in the top contention for medals in their respective competitions. They are already hot favorites:

Sandra Kiriasis from Germany - (Bobsleigh)
Andre Lange from Germany - (Bobsleigh)
Kati Wilhelm from Germany - (Biathlon)
Lindsey Vonn from USA - (Alpine Skiing)
Mellisa Hollingsworth from Canada - (Skeleton)

The 2010 Winter Olympics event is officially addressed as XXI Olympic Winter Games and will start from February 12 and will continue till February 28th 2010. So far 48 different nations have qualified for the Winter Olympic games, but the numbers will keep changing as more and more nations qualify. About 80 nations are expected to qualify for the main events.

A list of around 86 events has been officially announced for the 2010 Winter Olympiad. Here is a list of the main categories of sporting events that will be a part of the Games:
Alpine Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, Biathlon, Curling, Ski Jumping, Figure Skating, Snow Boarding, Bobsleigh, Short track Speed Skating, Speed Skating, Luge, Cross-Country Skiing, Nordic Combined, Ice hockey and Skeleton.
The exception of the 2010 Winter Olympics would be the inclusion of Fishing. After a long of debate and some controversy, it has been finally included in the list of events. Ice Fishing will be one event which will draw the attention of many. Another special feature would be the hockey event which will be organized on a narrow sized ice rink for the first time in the history of Winter Olympics.
