Grand Theft Auto IV is the most recent version of the hit Take Two/Rockstar Games franchise, and by now, given the record sales, you’re probably one of countless others who have already logged many bleary hours as recent Serbian immigrant Niko Bellic roaming the streets of Liberty City, discovering the newest city and characters in the Grand Theft Auto 4 universe. (Or maybe you’ve just spent the last couple days listening to the great soundtrack, with cuts from Fela Kuti, Fat Joe, Ghostface Killah, Italo disco re-inventors Black Devil Disco Club, Phillip Glass, Kanye West, post-punkers Liquid Liquid, John Coltrane, Barry White, Kavinsky, Boys Noize, Simian Mobile Disco, Montreal disco king Gino Soccio, Cerrone, and Agnostic Front!)

But the real thrill with all Grand Theft Auto videogames is the freedom to discover, and to go nuts, using cheat codes! Here are some of the first to discover – I’m sure there are many more to come!

Cheat mode
To enter cheat mode, while playing Grand Theft Auto 4, press Up to display Niko's cellphone. Press Up again and you’ll access the keypad. Enter one of the codes listed below to activate a cheat function. Once a code has been entered correctly, a new Cheats menu option will be available on your phone, below Options where you can access the cheats without having to enter the phone number again.

Note: Don’t save the game after you’ve enabled the cheat codes, as sometimes you won’t be able to earn some achievements in the game if you’re using cheat codes.

Full health
Dial "3625550100" into the cellphone. Note: This phone number translates to "DOC-555-0100". This code prevents the "Cleaned The Mean Streets", "Finish Him", "One Man Army", and "Walk Free" achievements from being earned.

Full health and ammunition
Dial "4825550100" into the cellphone. Note: This phone number translates to "GTA-555-0100". This code prevents the "Cleaned The Mean Streets" achievement from being earned.

Unlock 1st Tier Weapons
Dial "4865550100" into the cellphone. This will unlock the baseball bat, handgun, shotgun, MP5, M4, sniper rifle, RPG, and grenades. Note: This phone number translates to "GUN-555-0150". This code prevents the "Cleaned The Mean Streets" achievement from being earned.

Unlock 2nd Tier Weapons
Dial "4865550150" into the cellphone. This will unlock the knife, Molotov cocktails, handgun, shotgun, Uzi, AK47, sniper rifle, and RPG. Note: This phone number translates to "GUN-555-0100". This code prevents the "Cleaned The Mean Streets" achievement from being earned.

Remove Niko's wanted level
Dial "2675550100" (COP-555-0100) into the cellphone. This code prevents the "One Man Army" and "Walk Free" achievements from being earned.

Add one star to Niko's wanted level
Dial "2675550150" (COP-555-0150) into the cellphone

Spawn Annihilator police helicopter
Dial "3595550100" (FLY-555-0100) into the cellphone. This code prevents the "One Man Army" and "Walk Free" achievements from being earned.

Spawn Cognoscenti
Dial "2275550142" (CAR-555-0142) into the cellphone.

Spawn Comet
Dial "2275550175" (CAR-555-0175) into the cellphone.

Spawn FBI Buffalo
Dial "2275550100" (CAR-555-0100) into the cellphone.

Spawn Jetmax

Maps
If you enter the URL "www.whattheydonotwantyoutoknow.com" into any of the in-game computers, you’ll be able to view maps that point out the locations of all weapons, health, armor, vehicles, pigeons, ramp/stunts, and entertainment.
Fast Money
Travel to the nearest ATM, and cause a traffic jam in the area. After someone’s used the ATM, kill him or her, but ensure that you’ve blocked any nearby roads so the paramedics will be unable to get to the scene of the crime. Take the victim’s money, run a short distance, and return to the scene of the crime. The money should re-appear on the ground, and you can repeat this as many times as you want. Killing more people at the ATM will increase the amount of money you can collect when you return to the scene of the crime.
Repair Engine
If your automobile breaks down, just dial 911 on your phone and your car will start again.
Taxi Time!
If you want to speed up the time it takes to get across the city, you can call a taxi. The taxi will take you through the entire city in about 10 seconds, during missions, as well.
Easy Headshots
If you press Auto-Aim, then use the right analog-stick to move the auto-aim target around your victim’s body, while barely moving the right analog stick and shooting. You’ll end up firing into the chest and head of the victim, resulting in an easy kill.
Escape the Police
The police will look for you in a circular area, which, if you escape, will change if another cop sees you. By barely escaping the circular area, (you can see it on your radar), and waiting for five seconds or so, you’ll be able to escape ‘em.
Regain Health w/o a Healthpack
If you leave your mission area and go to a hot-dog stand or restaurant, you can restore your health by eating food from that stand, in lieu of a health pack.
Avoid Toll Boots
You can skip through a toll-booth and save yourself $5 by driving to the tollbooth in any emergency vehicle with sirens wailing.
Ringtone & Theme $
After you’ve got your phone, go to the nearest café and buy all of the ringtones and themes. You’ll only pay $100 for everything!
"One Man Army" Achievement Made Easy!
If you travel to the bridge that crosses the train tracks and goes to the second island and walk along the train track, you’ll have a six star wanted level. If you wait for five minutes on the train track, you’ll get the One Man Army achievement, and you won’t have to worry about the police, because they’ll be on the bridge above. As well, the bridge will provide you with cover from the helicopters!
