Until last week, there have been two stories running in parallel. The first story is of rampant inflation fuelled by the price of oil making record new highs every week. The subtext to this story is the dawn of a difficult decade. The second story is of a stock market that believed inflation would be contained and that the worst of the credit crunch is behind us.
